Welcome to 3rd grade!

Looking forward to an amazing year filled with learning, sharing, taking risks and reaching our goals! We started our year by writing about Our Hopes and Dreams for third grade!

This year I am excited to be implementing Reading Workshop in my classroom. The workshop model allows students to work at their own individual levels and most importantly gives them the opportunity to engage in real reading every single day. Giving children the opportunity to choose what they read is a powerful way to motivate and foster a love of reading.

At the beginning of the year, your child will learn how to pick “good-fit” books that are just right  (not too easy, not too hard). Students will be choosing books that they understand, have an interest in, and are at their own individual reading level. They will learn to find the "right" reading spot,  be able to respond to their reading in their reader's notebook and be able to share with their partners on what they read every day.

We had a wonderful time decorating our writer's notebook together. We decorated our notebooks with all the special memories and things in our lives. This will help us inspire and generate ideas to write during this time.

We began writer's workshop by creating a writing environment to get students excited to read about new writers and being writers themselves. We are focusing on beginning, middle and end of a story and making sure we are adding all the important details in our writing pieces.

Force and Motion:  Students will discover different ways to describe position and motion. How force affects motion and how simple machines work.  Please review any worksheets and/ or vocabulary sheets that come home in their take home folder. Special Schedule:_________________
