Important Dates:

October 7-11th Week of Respect!

Monday, 10/7- “Team up to create a safe school!”
Wear a team jersey or sports shirt.

Tuesday, 10/8- “Orange” you glad we are a bully
free school? Wear orange to support anti-bullying!

Wednesday, 10/9- No School

Thursday, 10/10- “Mismatched clothing day” to
celebrate and respect differences!

                                       Friday, 10/11- “We lift each other up” Students
                                    will be given a balloon template and asked to complete
                                    the sentence, “We lift each other up by…” Balloons will
                                      be colored, cut out, and made into a hallway display to
                                      show our unity towards the common goal of
                                         demonstrating support and compassion.

October 9th: No School

October 14th: No School
October 15th: Picture Day
October 28th: Class trip to Huber Woods
October 31st: Halloween party and parade

Dan St. Romain Behavior Lessons:

In class Juan Pablo teaches us how to be a kind and caring friend. Below are some of the phrases we us in class to help us learn to make good choices.

The phrases we use in class are in parentheses.

Please ask you child about these and reinforce them at home too.

1. Following Directions   ( I follow directions right away)

2. Handling Disappointment ( We get what we need, not always what we want)

3. Respect personal space   ( I have my space you have your space)

4. Getting a grown-ups attention appropriately (When I want the teacher's attention, I raise my hand)

5. Making Good independent choices  ( I have my own brain, I can make my own choices)

6. Paying Attention ( Where the eyes go, the brain follows)

7. Compassion   ( When I do the right thing, I have a happy heart)

8. Honesty ( Always tell the truth, no whoppers)

Writer's Workshop :  We are beginning our unit on telling true stories. We will be telling stories that have a beginning, middle and end. We will be illustrated these parts and labeling our pictures with our sounds and sight words. 

Math:  We are continuing the first unit in Ready Classroom: Numbers 0-5.  We will count, write and compare these numbers. We will be learning how to use math words to share with a partner and explain our thinking. 

Social Studies/Science: 
Weather and Being a scientist

        Wear blue clothing.

                     best outfit for the day.

 

Wednesday: "Stand & WALK Together Against Bullying":  Wear school colored

                               clothing – blue & yellow

                      **Join the AHES TRAIN – In recognition of National Walk to School Day we will be creating a walking train down First Avenue from the Harbor Playground to school.  The train will leave the “harbor station” at 8:00 am sharp.  We are happy to pick up passengers along the way on the school side (East side) of First Avenue.  Parents and siblings are welcome to join us for the walk. Students coming from the west side of First Avenue will need to be crossed over by parents using the crosswalks, or at the corner of First Avenue and East Washington by the crossing guard.
